Something new (for me anyway, I’ve seen this at Janet’s many times) brought to you by Lisa!

1. What is the most useful gift you’ve ever been given? My first box of crayons, they were what opened me to explore my creative side at a very young age. I loved creating my own lines. Still do.

2. Name the most terrifying moment of your life so far. My son was just a toddler, we were at a water park, it was closing time and he disappeared. It was pure chaos, people were leaving in droves, I was screaming his name, yelling for them to shut the gates, searching everywhere. He had disappeared within seconds. D rushed out from the changing area during this time finding me in a complete panic. As he and employees of the park started searching, I happened to look into the arcade….there he was, sitting under a pinball machine. I was the happiest momma in the world at the moment! That was one of the most terrifying moments of my life.

3. One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping center, you notice a dog suffering badly from the heat inside a locked car. What would you do? Call 911 immediately. I’d like to break the window and give the dog relief, but common sense tells me that a dog in stress could act irrationally, so I’d wait for the professionals to come and handle it.

We had a good weekend, did some shopping, attended a wedding, survived the glares of the WWotW who was in attendance, went to Romano’s Macaroni Grill for a fabulous dinner because I deserved to splurge, spent Sunday laying around the house with my honey, because we were nothing but lazy!  Nothing spectacular this weekend. We didn’t go take photos of Brandon and Brittney for their “save the date” announcement like we planned because she was exhausted after the wedding. Gee I wonder why?   Hopefully we’ll get it done soon. Now that her sister’s wedding is over, she can focus on her own more.

Miss Priss starts her new job today, she’s going to work for my step-dad and mom’s company. She’s very excited! She is their new receptionist and she will be working full-time as well as going to school! Send her positive thoughts as she adjusts to a full schedule!

Big D went to visit with his parents Friday, it wasn’t just for pleasure though. His mom has been showing early signs of Alzheimer’s (there is a family history) and his dad asked him to come and talk to her to seek medical advice. Fortunately, she listens to D and takes what he says very well. He came home feeling exhausted, but feeling that things went good, but it’s going to be a long road.

Saturday night we attended a 30th surprise party at Gloria’s for my cousin, Becky, and boy was she suprised! It was great to see our family all together for a celebration. Becky’s little girl is five, and when I met Big D, Becky was five! She was the one that shouted “Sherry your boyfriend is here”  when D had come to their house the very first time I met him. Mind you, I had no clue who he was, but that five year old had some serious fortunetelling going on!

To end my evening Saturday, I did something I don’t normally do but I got very upset. When two five year olds are outside, playing and yelling and yes being loud after being couped up in the resturaunt I can understand being a little aggravated. BUT, what I don’t understand is when a grown adult male who is sitting at a table outdoors with a party of twelve stands up and screams at the top of his lungs “SHUT UP!” at the two five year olds. Most of our party had gone their separate ways, but when I heard that the mom in me was fuming. How dare a grown man pick on two little girls for being little girls? Without much thought I walked over to their table, pointed my finger to that man in said, “For your information, you are an @$$hole!” The look of shock on that jerks face of priceless, he then stuttered saying he didn’t do anything. I just walked away shaking my head. I probably shouldn’t have done that, BUT I wanted him to know that he didn’t get away with it without someone noticing what a piece of dung he was. If one of the men in our group had done it, there probably would have been a big confrontation, but because a woman did it, I believe he was absolutely truly shocked. But anyway, I felt better.

Sunday, chilled here at the casa…spent some time in the hottub to ease the back. While we were out there we watched a lama play in the field next door. So now we have Longhorns, horses and a lama to watch!  Love that part of living out here. The down size, we found a 5 foot snake skin that was shedded on the otherside of our fence…not cool!!!!!!

Our first day of our trip we drove to Amarillo, Texas to spend the night and to go to Palo Duro Canyon. There is a wonderful show in the canyon about Texas with songs, dancing, fireworks, that just takes your breath away!

Imagine driving in the Texas Panhandle where you can see forever mind you and then all of a sudden there’s this amazing canyon! It was so beautiful.

The Theater Stage

I have never seen a more beautiful stage….they use the whole area you see even the very top! See where that tree stands in the middle (look really hard ), during the show a deer wandered up there slowly just looking around. I tried to capture it on my camera but because we couldn’t use flash it didn’t turn out. I was so disappointed!

Rider on the Ridge, it was amazing to see that rider fly across the ridge holding the Texas flag.

The evening ended with a fantastic fireworks show and the final view was this. Beautiful!

If you ever had a question whether things in Texas are bigger or not….

Here’s your proof….

The Big Texan is an Amarillo landmark, they are known for the 72 oz. steak! If you can eat the whole steak within an hour, it’s free. And no we didn’t eat there!

Well, I guess that will do for now…mind you that is just our first day and not even making a dent in the 830 photos I took! But I’ll be kind and not bombard you all at once!

Another week of musings in photos….with some words added….

This is how the sky looked on 8-8-08, the clouds were a bit dark, but the sun was breaking through, we knew it was going to be a great day!

See, what I mean…(this was hilarious, his tassel kept flying in his face! I have many photos of that! ) His parents and mine came to watch D walk across the stage, it meant alot to him to have them there, especially since the ceremony was at 10 in the morning!!

And yes, I couldn’t stop smiling….

Great job honey, we are all proud of you! We celebrated with family at Reata, with great food, drink and lots of laughs…something we always manage to do when we are together.

The rest of my weekend has been spent getting ready for mine and D’s vacation! We are leaving Tuesday morning for New Mexico, for the Sandia Mountains! We will be staying at a resort, and doing a lot of sightseeing as neither of us has ever been to New Mexico before. I’m so excited and can’t wait to take tons of photos!

I did get a new phone this weekend, a BlackBerry Curve, which I LOVE! I’m now able to Twitter via mobile, get my email, surf the web and I haven’t tried yet but I think I can post on my blog from it. I can access my blog, but haven’t tried posting! It’s like a mini laptop! Perfect for vacation.

I’m halfway through Eclipse, which I have found very hard to put down!! I did pick up Breaking Dawn yesterday so I can just glide right into that one. I’m still amazed at the writing in these books. My inner 17 year old shows itself while I’m reading them….anyone else experience that?

We were in East Texas this Saturday visiting family, took the opportunity to take some photos of my son and his fiancé.

These gorgeous pears were hanging in my grandparents yard….they had a tree load! I kept thinking of all the things you could make with pears….pear jam, pear wine (don’t know how, but sounds good ), fried pears (grandpa told about those! ),  pear breads, salads with pears…goodness the list goes on and on!

And of course, I had to capture a flower….it just happened to be a yellow rose bud!

Had a fun dinner at “Logan’s Roadhouse” then we continued our shopping spree! We found some awesome decorations for our 4th of July party then headed home to rest up for a busy Saturday!

I spent the first part of Saturday working on the house while the kids were working on the outside. When I finished up I went out to help, and it was HOT! But the yard and flower beds look great. All the shrubs are trimmed, everything is weeded, and thinned out. Looks good! We had to cut it short so the back didn’t get done, because we had to rest and get cleaned up before Miss Priss’s party. But we’ll get it done early this week.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner, great time with family and friends! The food was absolutely spectacular! We started out with appetizers of Grilled Fish Tacos with Lemon Pico, Grilled Veggie Quesodillas, and Applewood bacon wrapped grilled Jalepenos stuffed with Chipolte shrimp and cream cheese! Is your mouth watering yet? I had the Salmon with mango pico, which I have to say is the absolutely most spectacular Salmon I have ever tasted. For dessert they brought out Miss Priss her favorite (and mine) the Chocolate Chili Brownie! I made the statement to my mom that taking a bite of that brownie which had cayenne pepper in it, was like having a mini orgasm in your mouth!  She tried it, and agreed!

Sunday was spent with Big D, we had errands to do in preparation for the 4th. We are replacing our patio furniture that was damaged when we had that major hail storm awhile back. Found exactly what we wanted and it was on sale! Also bought some wicker furniture for the back porch, a love-seat and two chairs with two small end tables! Love having that out there, spent quite a bit of time already out there enjoying it. I believe my morning coffee time will be quite enjoyable!  

Enjoyed lunch with Brandon and Brit, as they helped us pick up all the furniture from the store. They are so cute together! She fits in our family so well, we really had fun together today. I’m so glad my son has excellent taste!

 So that was the gist of my weekend, it was busy and fun and well, you get the picture! :LOL: We have a busy week ahead but I’m so looking forward to the 4th! I would much rather be busy than not doing anything at all!

Since my niece was at the house, we had a “Jonas Brother’s, Camp Rock” movie night…”Like ohmigosh, they are so amazing” I can’t tell you how many times I heard that! She is more then slightly obsessed….but we love her anyhow.

Saturday my sister, BIL and nephew came out to pick up the niece and they spent the day with us. The kids wanted to fish. We have a pond in our addition that is stocked, so we walked down there with them and fed the duck. Yep just one duck, Zack, who’s not a Zack as Zack has built a nest and laid some eggs! So I guess Zack has had some company?

 Anyway as we fed the duck and fish we noticed that there were some BIG catfish in the pond! My nephew got so excited and was determined to catch one of them. Well, he did…but the catfish broke his line and swam off with the bobber attached to it. So we could spot the catfish wherever he swam. We felt sorry for the big ol’ catfish with the bobber attached to him, so off we went to Wally World to get stronger fishing line so he could catch it again and remove the bobber. Of course the girls had to get new fishing poles and “cute” bobbers. This spur of the moment fishing had become a major fishing adventure!

Someone needs to tell her the ponds the other way!

But the kids were having fun, and my sister and I, well we just laughed a heck of a lot! Long story short, my nephew did catch the catfish with the bobber and he removed it. So all is well with the fish world again.

 Sunday was one of those hang around the house days. D had some studying to do, I worked on some odds and ends. Mid afternoon it was pool time and a mean volleyball game. Brandon and D versus Brit, Miss Priss and I. Battle of the sexes!! It got rough, and the guys cheated. That’s all I’m saying. We ended the day with some good Mexican food at a local place. It was a pretty good weekend, all except for the really sore rear-end I have.

Saturday we stuck around the house, doing those little odds and ends that constantly need to be done. D had homework, so he worked on that most of the day. I did work out in the yard tending my plants and rewarded my “hard” work to lodging in the pool for an hour or two…got quite a lot of sun too, even more than I expected!

Funny thing happened Saturday night when we went for dinner. It was just D, Miss Priss and myself, catching a bite at a local place. Our waitress was college age and very friendly, they weren’t real busy so she would talk to us some. At the end of our meal, D wanted a dessert so we were debating what to share, when somehow the comment came up that I was Miss Priss’s mom. Our waitress looked shocked and said and I quote:

“You don’t look like a mom, I thought you two were sisters!”

Talk about making my night!!! Not only did she get a huge tip (probably what she was grabbing for anyhow but humor me OK?), but I did say she was my new best friend! I’m thinking I need to go in there once a week for a self confidence boost! See I told you all that these are miracle workers!

For Father’s Day we did exactly what D wanted to do….we swam and played in the pool all afternoon then grilled burgers. The man is easy to please! Actually with his schedule, it was just what he needed! Miss Priss made her daddy a cake to top things off. He was a happy man!

Mind you I had a mini panic (spelled it right Leanne ) attack before I started, thinking what if I lost everything? How horrible that would be!! But it was really easy with the directions that Leanne has on her site here. The upgrade is awesome, lots of new things and I like the layout much better in the admin area.

So that’s it for my bragging, thanks for indulging me!

It’s raining here, not a pretty Monday, no wonder I didn’t feel like doing anything but Plurking. Oh, you don’t know about Plurk? You should!!

After the game we met up with my sister and her family, my mom and step-dad at a really good Mexican restaurant near their house. Now let me tell you, when we lived in Georgia we couldn’t find a decent Mexican restaurant anywhere! But here in good ol’ Texas they are everywhere!!! Thank heaven!! This restaurant was wonderful and they had the best margaritas! Let me share with you that when you get my sister and I together, there will be at least one moment when our mother will turn red!! Mission accomplished more than once Saturday night! (Love you mom!!)

Now during dinner my BIL was telling us all about his Wii. (Yes, I resorted to a childish joke there) So after dinner we went to my sister’s house to play the Wii! I had so much fun and my sister has discriminating videos of me, so I have to be nice to her or else it will end up on YouTube or myspace, but it was worth it! We bowled, we played tennis, we played baseball, and we boxed! I boxed my sister who literally kicked my hiney! (Side note: She’s four years younger, she’s played more than I, and it was the very first time I played it!! Is that enough excuses?? ) Then I boxed with my hubby and had such a work out that I can’t hardly move now! We have decided that we need a Wii. It’s a great workout!!!

Sunday, D got a call from his mother, she asked if we liked to meet them for lunch. Umm, sure it’s only two hours away! But we did and I did so with a smile on my face since D made a really good deal with me….he said that if I would go with him, we’d make a detour on the way home by the casino. I went happily! Though we didn’t win big at the casino we played for several hours on their money and had lots of fun!

So that was our weekend. I’m sore, tired and feeling like I went ten rounds with Ali but I had a great time! So how was your weekend?
