Loretto Doors, originally uploaded by Sherry’s Digital Bliss.
A photo challenge, I’m there! This one is the “Opening Doors Challenge” found over at Jientje’s blog, Heaven in Belgium. Click the link for the rules, it’s easy…it has to be a….door.
This photo is of the front doors of the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Gothic Revival-style chapel built in 1873 was patterned after King Louis IX’s Sainte-Chapelle in Paris; a striking contrast to the adobe churches already in the area. This is a beautiful chapel one that should be on your “to see” list if you visit Santa Fe.

That’s a beautiful door. The carved wood, the carved stone, and the shaped window all add up to a lovely piece of work.

Isn’t that a beauty?! WOW! Yep! If I ever get there, I will sure go see it.
Now…do I notice that not ONLY is it probly locked — but there’s a chain across the front as well? Or is it OPEN, and the chain is there until it’s “your turn” to go in?

I also thought the photo was European. Santa Fe! The church would definitely stick out in the neighborhood, so different from the adobe.

Oh that is very pretty! I love the carving. I would like to carve a door for my home. Someday I will take it on. In the mean time I love to check out the designs of them and practise on smaller stuff.

Amazing architecture, I would certainly not expect to find this in New Mexico!
I’m in Santa Fé now? I just love how this meme takes me to those stunning places, I would never get to visit them all in real life, but I can through blogging! Thanksa lot!

Your doors are another good reason for me to visit Santa Fe again (the Georgia O’Keefe museum was my first good reason!). They are beautiful and not southwestern at all, huh?
