This week I’m going to list 13 things that I learned after attending my first Renaissance Festival this past weekend.
1. First, when arriving at the festival grounds, you will find that many individuals get out of their modern people carriers,
and proceed to don rather funky attire!
2. If you are just standing around or sitting at a picnic table finishing your lunch, someone will come up to you speaking in a funny form of English and quote you a poem, sing a song or even tell a joke.

He recited a cute poem to my mom while we had our lunch.
3. If the sign says “Turtle Races” it is anything but! It’s a hilarious one man comedy show, well with turtles!
Just don’t volunteer to be an assistant!
My BIL, as “TurtleMan!”
4. That 18 year old red blooded males somehow find the perfect place to plop their hind ends, especially for photo ops!

My handsome nephew, I had to explain what a Courtesan was.
5. Some people are way to fond of leather and should not be wearing it in public! Not sure what this guy was or what his costume had to do with the Renaissance, he was just freaky!

His whole group were more S & M than Renaissance
6. Though I also learned that some did look just fine in leather….and I don’t care what he had to do with the Renaissance era (neither did my sister, niece, or daughter!
)

The front is just as nice…..
7. I also learned that at a Renaissance Festival some individuals of larger size (and hey before anyone says anything, I am a big gal so back off!
) have no qualms about wearing belly dancing costumes.
Believe me, it wasn’t pretty!
8. Some people really look the part that they play, which can be kind of scary!

This “Leprechaun” even talked the part so well I swear he was really a Leprechaun!!
9. I learned that women of that time period must have been very uncomfortable! The corsets, seemed unbearable, especially when you saw women with their boobs touching their chins. No, seriously, we did. Ok, I see you need proof…..

How she didn’t pop out, I’ll never know!
10. That everyone gets into the festival even if it’s just for a moment…

My son, the Princess
11. That after this weekend, I’d really would like to see Big D in a kilt!
There is nothing sexier than a man in a kilt!

Just ahhhh….
12. Some serious re-enactors are so serious about the Renaissance Festival that they start their off-springs in the action from the beginning!

This little cutie was holding her daddy’s hand (A Templar at that) when I asked if I could take her picture, she was so cute! Though her pacifier isn’t Ren issue is it?
13. And last but not least, I learned that spending the day with your family is a wonderful way to spend the day, no matter what era you are in!

Love ya mom!

I love festivals like that! My daughter did highland dancing for 14 years so we encountered quite a few men in kilts - and yes, it does the heart good!
