So this weekend I accomplished alot! But one of the things on my list was to take a Sunday drive and photograph the blooming Bluebonnets. We hopped in the car and headed towards the “Hill Country” where the Bluebonnets tend to bloom in fields of blue.
As we drove further I was beginning to get a bit discouraged, only seeing small patches here and there. That’s not what I wanted, I wanted a field of blue! By the time we got to Stephenville though we were starving so we stopped for a bite to eat and while there I asked our waitress if she knew of any Bluebonnets blooming nearby. She asked around and told me of an area that had a big patch just on the outskirts of town. Well, her actually words were, “theres a big patch near the new stop light, y’all know where that is?” Love small town directions!
I’ve had several ask me what Bluebonnets were so let me give you what Wikipedia says:
The bluebonnet, a name common to several North American species of Lupinus, is the state flower of Texas. They typically grow about 0.3 m (1 ft) tall. The name is possibly derived from the shape of the petals of the flower and their resemblance to the bonnets worn by pioneer women to shield themselves from the sun. It may instead be derived from the Scottish term Bluebonnet, for the traditional blue coloured version of the Tam o’shanter hat. On March 7, 1901, Lupinus subcarnosus became the only species of bluebonnet recognized as the state flower of Texas.
So without further ado, let me share with you some of my photos from our Sunday drive.

We al;ways wanted to wander aimlessly around the Fredricksburg area during the bluebonnet blooming time, but we never seem to be able to get out of town at the right time… Great photos!
