Music and More

It’s Monday and gloomy here. Suppose to rain, which is good, we are in need of it, but my head is saying no to it. I have the beginning of a migraine, which usually happens before a storm. I have a built in weather forecasting system…though not a pleasant one. nervous

So did you watch the Grammy’s last night? I caught some of it. I had to watch Extreme Makeover first, which was very moving as they were making over a house for a Marine, who was a single dad of four, and he had served two tours in Iraq, the last where he lost his leg. What a hero! I cried like a baby during that show.

Back to the Grammy’s though, I missed Kayne West’s rant, but my daughter filled me in on it. I can’t stand that little twerp, he’s arrogant and thinks way too much of himself so when Vince Gill got up to accept his award and dissed Kayne, I LOVED it! If you missed it, here it is…

Gotta love that man! I have always liked Vince Gill, and I don’t like country music!! mrgreen

A lot of good performances, Jerry Lee Lewis looked like he could barely play the piano anymore, kind of sad. Little Richard should be called, Little Scary! shock John Fogerty could still rock out though!

Amy Winehouse’s performance, well….I have to say she can sing and I like her voice, but boy is that girl a mess!! worried She sang her song “Rehab” as she stumbled and was twitchy on stage. You know she reminds me of Janis Joplin in a way and I expect she’ll have the same future. So sad.

My favorite performance of the night was Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli singing “The Prayer” together. Talk about magic!! luv So to make your day, take a few minutes and listen to these two beautiful voices and enjoy the magic! angel

Had a hard time watching it all too. Kept flipping back and forth to Extreme Makeover myself. Missed both of these, thanks for sharing. That was some performance, voices that are truly a gift!

Well dear YR…I hate to disagree with you or your daughter, but…Kanye’s words were not a “rant” at all…..It is interesting how we all hear things a different way, depending on how we feel about the person…..I don’t feel that Kanye is a tewrp, but respect your right to dusagree with me….All he did was in a very nice gentle way, ask the band not to play him off (He had not been speaking that long anyway….!)…..He wanted to say something about his mother who had died, out of respect for her, Not unreasonable, to me….AND, especially given that there were only 10 awards given out on a show that ran over 3 hours long!!! This is no longer an “AWARDS” show….It is a show with lots of performances by terrific performers. They should really stop calling it an “awards” show. MOST of the Awards—close to 100(?) I think, or something like that, are NOT given out on the air any more, and in fact they never WERE ALL given out on thr air, but 10 only, in over 3 hours?? I don’t think that is right…..
And BTW, the decision to stop the band came from The Director of the show, and rfightfully so, when he realized it was NOT in very good taste or very respectful to cut Kanye off at that moment. Also…is kidding someone in good humor really ‘dissing’ them? Perhaps I do not understand the meaning of the word ‘diss’…..Oh well, it is all very interesting…..What I saw of the show..(I DID see Kanye’s win…..There were some pretty great performances…..Herbie Hancock and RHAPSODY IN BLUE….WOW! Aretha….WOW!

Sorry you are struggling with a migraine, my dear….I hope it did not take hold….!
Have a great week, my dear…..!

I respect your opinion my friend, and as I stated I didn’t see Kayne’s “speech” just what was told to me. Guess I need to watch it. But my opinion of him doesn’t change, I just don’t like him. He does have a very high opinion of himself and wants everyone to share the same.

I do agree that Herbie Hancock and Rhapsody In Blue was beyond WOW!! That was quite a performance!

And I’m with you…Bocelli/Groban stole the show!! How funny…I just got through listening to their video on YouTube before I came here!! I looked for it this morning and it wasn’t up yet…so I tried again as soon as I got home!!
Love you! )

I didn’t see the Grammy’s, so thanks for the video of Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli. The music and their incredible voices gave me chills. What God-given talent.

Just to set the record strainght, Vince wasn’t dissing Kanye about telling them to stop the music when he wanted to talk about his mother.
It was more aimed towards Kanye’s comments about the Album of the Year award. He said that if HE didn’t win, Amy Winehouse deserved to win as much as he did…but added that HE deserved to.There were a few other self-serving remarks made in a boastful manner. As if he and Amy were the only two REAL talents in that category. In a way it was a back-handed slam at the others up for that award (Foo Fighters, Herbie Hancock and Vince Gill) as if they didn’t really matter or weren’t ‘worthy’ of winning. Vince was just bringing him down a notch or two. So, while I would have been glad to see Amy W win, I was just as happy to see someone other than the ‘chosen two’ to come away with the Album of the Year Grammy (Herbie Hancock).
No one said Kanye isn’t talented or doesn’t deserve to win, he’s just a bit too full of himself.
