1. The Statue of Liberty is actually a statue of two different people. The face was that of Charlotte Bartholdi, the mother of the designer Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The sculptor’s girlfriend, Jeanne-Emilie, was the model for the statue’s arms and body.

2. Winston Churchill was born in a ladies’ room during a dance. That had to be some dance!! shock

3. In Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart never said “Play it again, Sam.” Sherlock Holmes never said “Elementary, my dear Watson.” Captain Kirk never said “Beam me up, Scotty,” but he did say, “Beam me up, Mr. Scott”.

4. The characters Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were named after Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver in Frank Capra’s “Its A Wonderful Life.”

5. Hershey’s Kisses are called that because the machine that makes them looks like it’s kissing the conveyor belt. luv

6. Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history. Spades – King David, Clubs – Alexander the Great, Hearts – Charlemagne, and Diamonds – Julius Caesar.

7. It is possible to lead a cow upstairs…but, not downstairs. Ok, I wanna know who tested this fact and what did they do when they got the cow up the stairs and it wouldn’t come down! mrgreen

8. The electric chair was invented by a dentist! That kinda explains alot, doesn’t it?! razz

9. The international telephone dialing code for Antarctica is 672. Just throwing that out there in case you need to call that special someone!

10. Ivory bar soap floating was a mistake. They had been over mixing the soap formula causing excess air bubbles that made it float. Customers wrote and told how much they loved that it floated, and it has floated ever since.

11. The Eisenhower interstate system requires that one mile in every five must be straight. These straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies.

12. From space, the brightest man-made place is Las Vegas, Nevada.

13. The five most stolen items in a drugstore are batteries, cosmetics, film, sunglasses, and, get this, Preparation H. lol Apparently people are just too embarrassed to purchase the last item. And, just in case you are curious, one of Preparation H’s main ingredient is shark liver oil. The oil not only helps shrink hemorrhoids, but will shrink any tissue. As a result, many older women in Florida use the stuff to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles! Hmmmmm, nice little fact to tuck away for the future!! innocent

I love this list. I knew about No. 3.
The Burt and Ernie one is really cool. It’s my wife’s favorite Christmas movie.

Happy TT

I knew some of them, but not about the straight one mile in five. That is very interesting.

Actually Winston Churchill was born prematurely in a spare bedroom in Blenheim Palace,. after his mother fell from her horse. I’ve been there and seen the actual bed. Mind you, the dance story is more interesting!

Bartholdi’s shrink probably had a field day with that one!

Why does the Winston Churchill fact not surprise me?

I remember watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” and discovering the Burt and Ernie characters. My sister and I thought that was so funny!

This a fun list. My brother works at a drugstore and he can definitely confirm the last fact. I watched Casablanca the other day actually; and quite right, Bogart doesn’t say it.
