Today has not been a fun day. Going to the dentist is on my least favorite things to do list, and today I had to go see Dr. Torture. No that’s not his name, he’s actually a very nice man, but that’s what I like to call him. I went in to have a filling repaired. Of course, once I got there he found more to do!!
So after the x-rays, and exam he asks me if I would come back in an hour and a half to have all this work done, as it was lunch time. I agreed, since he warned me I would be numb for hours I needed to eat now myself. So I went back, and prepared myself. If you have been a reader here, you know I am a BIG chicken when it comes to the dentist. The only thing that I look forward to is the Nitrous, that stuff ROCKS!
I was hooked up and floating along, feeling quite good actually, listening to the tunes as Dr. T was working when he hit a spot that made me jump almost out of the chair. Took awhile for my heart rate to slow back down, and for my hands to unclench the armrests, but I never could completely relax after that moment. He did numb that area more, with actually going into the bone….he warned me that this was a last ditch method, and that I was going to be really sore with the drilling he did there also. I had to have a crown replaced and two fillings repaired. I was in that chair for about two hours. Two hours too long, but I know I had to have it done. I’m just sulking. Now that I’m home, the numbing is starting to wear off, and guess what? The doc was right, it hurts!!
Thank heaven for pain killers and ice packs.
We are leave for DC on Thursday, hope this is better by then!!
No, change that. It has to be better by then!!

Oooo- you so have my sympathy
I’ve spent entirely too much time in the dentist chair this past year- 4 root canals, gum surgery, & now replacing a broken crown
One more visit & I won’t have to go back for 6 months
Take care & take your meds!

I soooo empathize with you dear YR…I have spent so many many hours in the dentist chai and L-O-N-G sessioons…some lasting 5 hours….So, I know the pain and those horrible moments when you could just go through the ceiling!
Dr. Torture, indeed! (lol). Iyt’s funny, Nitrous always made me cry…! And I didn’t like the way I felt after I got through the crying jag…Fascinating how all of our bodies are different and react differently to all these things…!

ugh – I have just been to the dentist too http://craziequeen.blogspot.com/2007/06/pain-much-pain.html
……on the plus side, he only fixed the filling…..on the negative side – we aren’t allowed Nitrous in the UK. I used to love Gas and Air and it made me dream off to wonderful places while my dentist did his evil work.
My current dentist is very understanding of my immense fear. I jokingly call him Dr Death, but he is a very nice Iraqi gentleman, perfecting his trade in the UK.
We’ll swap misery stories on your return…….
