My second day in NYC was probably my favorite day there as it was the day my man surprised me with tickets to see the Broadway play, “Wicked!” As I have mentioned before, I have wanted to see this play for over three years. I’ve read the book by Gregory Macguire, and fell in love with the story of Elphaba and Glinda.

We took a town car to the theater to pick up our tickets at will call, and to this point Big D would not tell me where our seats were. When he handed me the tickets and I looked at the seats and then looked at the seating chart I not only teared up, but I laid one big whopper of kiss on my man!!
Our seats were fourth row, orchestra, dead center!!!!! Talk about the best seats in the house! When you are close enough to see the spit fly out of the actors mouth, its wonderful!

We had about an hour and a half before the show started and I was to excited to eat anything, so we decided to just walk around. Wow, Times Square is something to see no matter what time of day! Throngs of people, street performers, and some quite interesting folks to boot!!

We passed the GMA studios, which was neat. Passed the M&M World which is HUGE!!! Didn’t go in, because I couldn’t afford the calories!
Plus many other wonderful sights…it was kinda mind blowing, all the lights and noise! I grew up in Chicago, but NYC is definitely one of a kind!!
I wore these great black pair of Anne Klein sandals, that “LOOKED” like they would be comfortable…boy was I wrong!! After our walking about town I was hurting! My feet were covered in blisters! Thankfully I had those Band-Aid Blister pads, which I covered my feet in. (I’ll never wear those sandals again! My feet are in terrible shape right now….but it was worth it!!) Back to my story!
We headed back the Gershwin Theater in plenty of time before the show started. By this time, I was so excited I was like a kid in a candy store! The theater is beautiful and as we entered I was in awe of the stage scenery. I called Miss Priss after we were seated and had to tell her all about it! She was quite jealous as she wants to see “Wicked” also.
When the play started I was in brought in and stayed in the zone of the magic of it. It was everything I thought it would be and even more! The music, the acting, the costumes, the scenery, everything was spectacular!! I laughed, I cried, I had chills run up and down my arms. I felt like a kid when Glinda made her entrance with bubbles floating over my head where I could pop them! I felt the chill when the flying monkeys flew over my head, reminding me of the fear I had of them when I was a kid. When the finale curtain dropped, I knew I experienced something magical. And that it was, a magical night for me, one that the love of my life gave to me. It is a night I will never forget, the night I went to Broadway to see “Wicked!”
Here’s a snippet of one of my favorite songs from “Wicked” it’s “Defying Gravity” sung by Julia Murney as Elphaba…she is fabulous!! If you want to see more, just type in Wicked, Julia Murney on YouTube and you can see some of the preformances. It’s amazing! My new motto is “I’m Defying Gravity!!”
Stayed tuned for Day Three of our trip in NYC!!

Tell Big D he is aces with your blog sisters too. My Suzy got to see a performance…she was determined to see it even if she had to be an usherette. I did go into the world of M&M and Hershey World smells like chocolate. So glad you had a fabulous time.

I have seen Wicked twice this year…once in NYC at the Gershwin with Ana Gusteyere (sp?) and once on the road in Tampa. It is SO WORTH IT, isn’t it????? I LOVE this show. I’m dying to go see it again. I play the CD over and over in my player and I LOVE all the songs!!! I’m so glad you’ve had a great visit to NYC. It was my first trip there in December and I LOVED it.
“For Good” is definitely one of my favorites…but Defying Gravity??? Now there’s a concept and a song!!
Your pics are taking me back.
