New York City, Here I Come!!

nyc.jpg

I got a BIG surprise Friday! smile Big D called me while he was waiting at the airport in Texas to fly back home and informed me he was going to have to fly to New York City Monday on business. I started to sulk thinking how he’s only going to be home two days and then off again for four when he asked me if I’d like to tag along!! I said yes of course! He is leaving on Monday and I’m going to join him on Wednesday afternoon! We are taking an extra day just to do some sightseeing. I’m so excited! If you have been a reader here for awhile you know we had planned a trip to NYC for our anniversary last year, but we had to cancel because my dad had triple bypass. So even though this is a last minute trip, it will be lots of fun for this first timer in New York City. D will be working during the day, but I am not the type who is scared to hop in a taxi to see some sights on my own! So, who knows the adventures I’ll go on! We are also going to try *crossing fingers, toes, and everything else I can* to get tickets to the play “Wicked” while we are there. I know the chances of getting them so late are slim, but we will try!! I’ve been dying to see this play for years now, it would be a dream come true for me to see it on Broadway!! So maybe there is some magical Broadway fairy that will wave its magical wand and we’ll be able to get tickets! So if any of you have any suggestions of things for us to do or see in the city that never sleeps, we welcome them! mrgreen

I spent a week in NYC in late March and played Carnegie Hall! Saw 3 Broadway shows, all of which I recommend: Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins, and Company. You definitely want to see Jersey Boys! It is FABULOUS and still the original Tony-winning cast. I’ve also heard that The Pirate Queen is good, although the reviews were just so-so. This should be a great time of year to be there . . . have fun and be sure to let us know all about what shows you see, where you eat, etc.! cool

Sherry,

The best advice I got for my NYC trip was to buy tickets on the double decker tour bus. They will take you everywhere you’d like to visit and you can get on and off, as other buses will stop by every 15 minutes. So you don’t even need to buy taxis and it’s much much better. You can even buy a package with Broadway tickets included and a behind-the-scenes tour. There were 7 of us in our group and they all said the double decker tour bus was the highlight – the best way to see the city!

Hiya Rosie Dahling! The weather here is great, so hopefully it will stay nice for your visit, too. As far as stuff to do here, if you’re into gardens, the NY Botanical Gardens are gorgeous right now (but you’ll have to hop a train to see them – the gardens are in the Bronx) or you could check out the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens which would be closer to you. You could do a twilight ferry ride called the “Harbor Lights Cruise” on the Circle Line, which would also be nice this time of year – and pretty romantic! Also, if you’ll be here over the weekend, the 9th Avenue International Food festival will be going on; and from what I hear, it is the BEST street festival of the year! I am planning on going to it on Sunday, so if you’re gonna be around, let me know and we’ll meet up! And finally, if you like candy, there is a cool candy place called Dylan’s Candy Bar which is TOTALLY awesome (they have a website – just google them). Have fun, girlie!

Hey girlfriend….don’t forget to go to Serendipity for their fabulous Frozen Hot Chocolate. It is really close to Dylan’s Candy Company. Suzy is a fabulous tour guide and she is your neice and I’ve talked so much about you I’m sure she would love to meet you. Have a fabulous time.
