I am extremely sad to see that this is last Thursday Thirteen. I have participated for 55 weeks with this fun meme and have met some amazing people through this wonderful vessel that Leanne created. I don’t know why she has decided to let it go (and I don’t need to) but I’m sure she has very good reasons, so let me just say, Thanks Leanne for giving us so much joy and fun for so long! You created something that sparked new friendships, made us reach out in the blogsphere, and helped us become alittle more creative! Thanks my friend!!
And now my last Thursday Thirteen…”Totally Useless Knowledge!!!!!!”
1. The Statue of Liberty is actually a statue of two different people. The face was that of Charlotte Bartholdi, the mother of the designer Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The sculptor’s girlfriend, Jeanne-Emilie, was the model for the statue’s arms and body.

2. Winston Churchill was born in a ladies’ room during a dance.
3. In Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart never said “Play it again, Sam.” Sherlock Holmes never said “Elementary, my dear Watson.” Captain Kirk never said “Beam me up, Scotty,” but he did say, “Beam me up, Mr. Scott”.
4. The characters Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were named after Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver in Frank Capra’s “Its A Wonderful Life.”

5. Hershey’s Kisses are called that because the machine that makes them looks like it’s kissing the conveyor belt.

6. Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history. Spades - King David, Clubs - Alexander the Great, Hearts - Charlemagne, and Diamonds - Julius Caesar.
7. It is possible to lead a cow upstairs…but, not downstairs. Ok, I wanna know who tested this fact and what did they do when they got the cow up the stairs and it wouldn’t come down!
8. The electric chair was invented by a dentist! (That kinda explains alot doesn’t it?!)
9. The international telephone dialing code for Antarctica is 672. Just throwing that out there in case you need to call that special someone!
10. Ivory bar soap floating was a mistake. They had been over mixing the soap formula causing excess air bubbles that made it float. Customers wrote and told how much they loved that it floated, and it has floated ever since.

11. The Eisenhower interstate system requires that one mile in every five must be straight. These straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies.
12. From space, the brightest man-made place is Las Vegas, Nevada.

13. The five most stolen items in a drugstore are batteries, cosmetics, film, sunglasses, and, get this, Preparation H. Apparently people are just too embarrassed to purchase the last item. And, just in case you are curious, one of Preparation H’s main ingredient is shark liver oil. The oil not only helps shrink hemorrhoids, but will shrink any tissue. As a result, many older women in Florida use the stuff to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged!

I just got into the TT, and now sadly it’s going away. My final Thursday Thirteen is devoted to Diana Ross & the Supremes, the original Dream Girls.

Great list and interesting too! Happy final TT!

Hmmm…we noticed you did not have any useless knowledge about cats…this is a good thing.

Oh oh, I never heard of that H stuff. I hope they don’t apply it on the wrong place…. Oooops! *giggles*

I loved getting all this very useful information. But now you have me worried about that poor cow!
Girl, don’t worry, we will do lunch just as soon as I can drive!!!

I know that you are sad to see this go. I had to quit because I just could not think of a list of 13 every week so I went to Thankful Thursday. My Thankful Thursday is up if you would like to visit me. Your last list if very good and I learned a lot that I had no idea about. Thanks for it!! Take care and keep visiting. Sandy

#3 - Oh! Say it isn’t so! Well that just bites.
#6 - Interesting. I never knew that. I’ve heard that each suit is related to an astrological element: Spades=Fire, Clubs=Earth, Diamonds=Air, and Hearts=Water.
#8 - Oh! Why do my teeth suddenly hurt?
#9 - LOL! Thanks.
I now considered myself fully armed with useless knowledge. Thank you so very much, YellowRose. [grin]

What fun. Good thought about the cow.

I loved this information, when TT starts up again, we need to make lists of 13 probable ways they got the cow down!
