I received an email from a childhood friend this weekend, she was telling me that she drove down our old block and my childhood home was being torn down. She stated she got a little teary eyed as she saw this, because all the memories were being torn down and soon there will be none left.
Thankfully when I was up in Chicago last October I made a point to go to the old neighborhood. I took a few pictures and though my childhood home doesn’t look anything like what it did when we lived there, I’m thankful I took some pictures. This is where I spent the first eighteen years of my life…

Our little house was always kept very tidy and very clean. My parents always took great pride in keeping the landscaping perfect. My friends use to tease me that you could come to my house anytime and it would be perfect…and they were right! I was really heartbroken to see our little house in not so “perfect” condition. But now hearing that it’s been torn down, well….that’s even worse. Lot’s of memories in that little house. My dad converted the formal dining room into another bedroom so I had my own bedroom when I was a teenager. I was in heaven. Eventually, he converted the attached garage into a family room, laundry room and a half bath, making the house seem so much bigger. It wasn’t a big house, but it was one that held lots of memories. I’m sad to hear it is gone.
The reason the demolition of my old house and one’s around it, they are building bigger and better homes in the neighborhood. I guess all things change…at least we have the memories.

That’s a great memory…and aren’t you glad you have the photo to share. I’ve been able to go back into the house I grew up in twice…not far away. I know I’d be heartbroken if they torn it down. At least it’s still going to be residential…and not a parking lot!
My MM is up too.

That’s sad that they are tearing the house down just so they can build bigger & better.
It looks like a lovely home & at least the memories will always be with you to cherish.

My Monday Memory is finally up too. Been a busy day like always!!
I am sorry to hear about your home. I know it is hard when you hear about things like that. I have been in situations like that where a home you used to live in is no longer there. You sit and think about the great memories that you have from that place. You just have to keep those memories in your heart. Sandy

That was a beautiful house. I’m sure you felt a sting in your heart when your friend told you it was being torn apart.
My Monday Memory is up too.

It’s sad to see a house destroyed. One I grew up in has been remodeled and looks like crap from the outside.

Yes, it is sad to see changes; I think all the houses I lived in growing up are still standing, and one looks better than when we lived there. I thought your house looked really good–but I’m not much of a lawn and flower person. Many suburbs are experiencing the tear-down, rebuild with McMansions phenomena–land is so expensive.
My MM is up, but you’ll need to scroll down a bit to find it. It is also linked to the scrolling marquee at the top. I’ve been gone for 2 weeks so have a lot of blogs backed up to add.

Oh Rose, that’s sad…
I hope they are tearing it down to make new memories for another lovely family.
