Last night we had a quiet night at home, watched a few movies and played a very competitive game of cards! We watched as Dick Clark made his first public appearance since his stroke, and it brought a tear to my eye as I watched him speak for the first time. We watched the ball drop in Times Square and the Peach drop in Atlanta, as the four of us toasted each other to the New Year. It was a great way to spend the night!
We are kicking around the house today. I have a huge pot of these on the stove:

I don’t know if it’s just a Southern thing or not, but you must eat black eyed peas on New Years day for good luck throughout the next year. It’s a tradition we haven’t broken since I have been a kid and well, it’s just not New Years Day without our black eyed peas!
Had a surprise this morning, I woke up, came down to the computer and everything on my computer screen was upside down! That was lovely. After running virus scan, which is not easy to maneuver when everything is upside down by the way, and we eliminated the prospect of a virus, Big D called tech support. After about 20 minutes of this and that, it was fixed! Big D hasn’t let me forget that he fixed it all day. He’s the man! LOL
Be sure to eat your black eyed peas today!

Have you ever heard that if you eat collar greens on New Year’s Day it is suppose to bring in money (as in green dollars?) In Savannah we eat “Hoppin John”…black eye peas with ham hocks. Tell Dr. Big D nice job on fixin the computer!

That black-eyed peas thing must be a southern thing because I had never heard of it until I spent 2-1/2 years in Texas. (I live in the midwest now)
You know, I was watching Dick Clark too and I really didn’t think he should have been doing the New Years eve celebration. I know that it’s his thing and he loves doing it, but to listen to him talk was sad. The stroke obviously affected his speech. He should have left well enough alone and left on a high note 2 years ago…leaving us with pleasant memories of the world’s oldest teenager, not the older man who struggles to speak because of a stroke.
I don’t know, just my opinion.
