Well after having had a bump in the road, this past week I had hit a road block with my recovery. I woke up last week with some draining from the main incision. My surgeon had me see a wound care specialist and go through wound care treatment. But when the cultures came back it wasn’t good, I had a staph and a strep infection. How I found this out though was a bit shocking, I received a phone call Monday morning waking me up from sound sleep by my surgeons nurse, she informed me that the Dr wanted me at the hospital at 1 that afternoon so he could perform another surgery to clean out the infection and attach a wound VAC. I.was.in.shock!!!!! So just 2 weeks after my first surgery I was rolled into the OR once again. I wish I could say I was tough and brave but I can’t, I literally have cried more in the last few days than I have in years. I know it’s because I’m exhausted, physically & emotionally beyond belief. I also didn’t expect this, having a tube coming out of my stomach for the next 4-6 weeks. But I do know I have some of the greatest family and friends who are taking care of, praying & being there for me! So right now I’m back in the hospital, actually just a few doors down from the room I was in 2 weeks ago, I’m getting wonderful care by compassionate nurses, but I really would love to be home, in my own bed!
I’ll keep you posted…..
